The Lede: Good morning. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is standing behind a newly-appointed housing official as she faces backlash for years-old social media posts, including messages that called for the seizure of private property and linked homeownership to white supremacy.

The Rundown

  • Trump’s offshore wind project freeze draws lawsuits from states and developers: Offshore wind developers and states are suing the Trump administration over its order to suspend work for at least 90 days on five large-scale projects under construction off the East Coast.

  • NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani defends tenant official facing backlash for ‘white supremacy’ posts: Cea Weaver, a longtime tenant activist, was tapped by the Democrat last week to serve as executive director of the Mayor’s Office to Protect Tenants.

  • Integritas lends $25M for Fort Greene rental units project above landmarked church: The financing will pay off $10.5 million in prior construction debt and recapitalize the project.

  • Mamdani swears in Lillian Bonsignore as FDNY commissioner: A longtime Bronx-based Emergency Medical Services leader, Lillian Bonsignore joined the department in 1991, responded to the Sept. 11 attacks, and became the first woman to reach a four-star EMS rank in FDNY history.

  • EDNY Board of Judges selects Peggy Cross-Goldenberg to serve as magistrate judge: Before her appointment to the bench at the Theodore Roosevelt Federal Courthouse at 225 Cadman Plaza East, Peggy Cross-Goldenberg spent over 18 years as an assistant federal defender in the Southern District office of the Federal Defenders of New York.

  • Mamdani orders end to migrant shelters: Under a plan to come by mid-February, the tens of thousands of migrants living in what critics have called a “shadow system” will likely remain in the city’s homeless shelters. (THE CITY)
