The Lede: Good morning. Two people were killed and several others badly hurt when an Air Canada regional jet struck a fire truck on a runway while landing at New York’s LaGuardia Airport, officials said.

  • A burning smell forces Newark airport control tower evacuation, briefly halting flights: Arrivals and departures were temporarily paused at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey on Monday morning after air traffic controllers evacuated the tower due to a burning smell coming from an elevator, the Federal Aviation Administration said.

  • Pilot and copilot killed in collision between jet and fire truck at LaGuardia Airport: The pilot and copilot were killed in the late Sunday night collision, which crushed the nose of the aircraft, while around 40 passengers and crew members were taken to area hospitals, some with serious injuries. Most have since been released from treatment, authorities said Monday.

  • Landmarks approves 24-story rental tower atop vacant church building: The Landmarks Preservation Commission has approved a 24-story rental tower above the historic Hanson Place Central United Methodist Church, reports 6sqft.
