The Lede: Good morning. The Brooklyn Heights Community Fridge has found a new home, and organizers are hosting a launch party to celebrate this weekend. The fridge is already open for donations, and the grand reopening is set for Sunday from 1-3 p.m.

  • DUMBO Drop set for today: Today, the iconic Washington Street in DUMBO will once again rain tiny elephants wearing parachutes from its rooftops.

  • The Brooklyn Heights Community Fridge has a new home: Established in 2021 outside of the First Presbyterian Church on Henry Street to help Brooklynites struggling during the pandemic, the fridge began looking for a new home over the winter, after the driveway its green shed was situated in front of became active again.

  • NYC Parks looks decades ahead in new equity-focused tree planting program: Trees will be planted in every available location on every street in New York City across the next nine years and will contribute to the city’s goal of reaching 30% tree canopy cover by 2040.

  • Man convicted in luxury watch extortion scheme: Queens jeweler Shlomo Patchiav, aka “Slava Fatkhiev,” 45, was convicted on Wednesday of extortion conspiracy, Joseph Nocella Jr., U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of New York, announced.

  • Bay Ridge hosts nation’s oldest Memorial Day Parade: Known as the nation’s oldest continuously running Memorial Day Parade, the march started on Third Avenue and 78th Street, then went up to Fourth Avenue and over to John Paul Jones Park, where the memorial service took place.

  • Federal judge drops charges against ex-Fox executive in soccer corruption case: Judge Pamela K. Chen accepted the explanation provided by U.S. Attorney Joseph Nocella Jr. about why the government wanted to dismiss the indictment against Hernan Lopez.

  • Librarians, kids throw the book at Mamdani over broken funding promise: The mayor has allocated a smaller piece of the city budget to libraries than his predecessor, Eric Adams. (THE CITY)
