THE LEDE: Good morning. For more than a century, two historic schooners with towering sails, have between them served the country in wartime, hosted the likes of Jacques Cousteau and graced the Maine state quarter. But an inlet just off the Gowanus Canal could be their final port of call.

  • NYC, the nation’s largest school system, bans AI for students through 8th grade: New York City’s public schools will temporarily ban elementary and middle school students from using artificial intelligence tools during the upcoming school year, Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced Wednesday.

  • 2 historic schooners rest at the bottom of a Brooklyn waterway: The boats — now owned by a company that turns historic vessels into floating bars and restaurants — sank in the Henry Street Basin in early July while docked on the Brooklyn waterfront.

  • Drone company booted from Brooklyn Navy Yard raises $20M: The company told Axios it found another site for its operations in Brooklyn, though it remains listed on the Navy Yard website.

  • Former OLPH Catholic Academy site to become home to Launch High School: Launch Schools announced it has signed a 15-year lease with the Redemptorist Fathers to give Launch High School a permanent home at 5902 Sixth Ave.

  • Possibility of new grocery destination in Carroll Gardens?: A company with ties to SoHo grocery retailer Happier Grocery has acquired two properties on the same block on Smith Street in Carroll Gardens, but on opposite sides of the street, according to Patch.
